There’s something quietly powerful about the transition into summer.
The pace doesn’t necessarily slow. Not in higher education, not in graduate medical education, and certainly not in leadership. But there’s a subtle shift in the air. A turning. A loosening.
For some, it’s the tail end of onboarding. For other’s it’s curriculum updates, board reviews, faculty development planning, or preparing for a fall semester that always arrives faster than expected. But underneath the logistics is something else:
A call to pause. To breathe. To notice.
To make space. Not just for rest, but for receiving.
In academic spaces, we’re trained to move from one milestone to the next. We finish one academic year and immediately begin prepping for the next. In medicine, we shift from graduation to July 1st without catching our breath.
But in nature, summer is a time of ripening, not racing.
This season invites us to consider a different pace. One that’s less about output and more about openness. One that makes room for something softer: abundance.
Not abundance as a hustle or accumulation. But abundance as ease, as trust, as a deep breath taken after a long stretch of striving
What Abundance Might Look Like Now
For leaders and educators, this season is a sacred chance to:
Reflect on the growth that’s already taken root.
Celebrate how far our learners (and teams) have come.
Loosen the grip on perfection.
Reconnect to purpose.
Listen inward again. Before the next wave of tasks begins.
A Companion for the Season
To honor this moment, I created a new Rooted Reflections offering:
Awakening Abundance- a guided meditation for receiving.
It’s a sacred journey through sea and self, especially for women stepping into their fullness. A chance to shift from doing to allowing, from scarcity to spaciousness.
Whether you’re in medical education, higher education, or any space where others rely on your leadership, I hope this meditation offers you a moment to come home to yourself.
Because abundance isn’t always more.
Sometimes, it’’s just enough.

Or share it with someone who may need it this week.
Here’s to tending the quiet things and trusting that they’re growing, even now.
